We are looking to appoint a motivated and enthusiastic Medical Laboratory Assistant who would welcome the challenge to join our friendly histology team in the Histology Laboratory at Russells Hall Hospital, Dudley.
The successful candidate will be expected to work in a busy environment alongside a team of Consultant Histopathologists, Biomedical Scientists, support and admin staff.
NB This post will initially be located at Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley, however the department will be relocated and merged into the Cellular Pathology Dept at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust (RWT) within the next few months.
Candidates must have a minimum of GCSE Mathematics and English or equivalent at grade C or above.
Potential candidates should be motivated, extremely well organised, keen to learn and develop new skills, have a flexible approach to work and be able to operate under pressure as part of a team in an often busy clinical laboratory environment
You will be expected to rotate through different areas of the histology department assisting the BMS staff and Pathologists, receiving training and support relevant to your level of experience. You must be able to demonstrate the following skills: manual dexterity, accuracy, attention to detail, good communication and team working skills, good personal organisational and time management skills having a systematic approach to your work.
Main duties include retrieval & filing of tissue blocks and slides, data entry, trimming room duties, waste and specimen disposal and general maintenance and housekeeping duties.
The shift pattern, once relocated to RWT, will be Monday to Saturday 7.30 - 7.30 and will include both early, late and weekend shifts. The successful candidate would be expected to be able to work within these hours.
